The Art of Self Portraits feat. Goia Boutique | GCeeStyle

You know that stereotype: Fashion Blogger + Photographer Boyfriend? I, yes I, am that stereotype. My boyfriend, Darien, has been my personal photographer for the past 8 years. We’ve both grown a lot in that time creatively; picked up on each others aesthetic & learned how to compliment them. I have to admit, it’s a true blessing.

But our day jobs don’t always align with each other – on days when he’s gone & I need to get work done, I shoot alone. & I don’t mind it either.untitled (6 of 7)It’s a bit of a challenge, especially since I do NOT have a Cannon remote to take pictures while posing. Still, I typically have a lot of fun doing it and have thought about doing self portraits more often just to see what I can create. A typical, solo shoot consists of me, a stool to help focus my camera [I do shoot in RAW manual] & a quick sprint to get into position and pose. By the end, I’m usually sweating like I finished a full workout.

Here are a series of shots I took for the Etsy Shop Goia Boutique featuring their handmade headband. Paisley print is a classic – adding the print to an accessory such as a headband is such a lovely, unexpected twist. I paired the headband with a thrifted green button top. I wanted to make the headband pop and using a contrasting color really draws the eyes to my upper half. To play up the feminine vibe, I buttoned the top just enough to create an off-the-shoulder situation. I’m really happy with the combo of these two. Very fem and girly.

I tied the look together with my Super High Rise Skinnies from Urban Outfitters, which was also thrifted. I threw on my thick brown belt, again thrifted, & tied the whole look together with my H&M black Platform booties.untitled (4 of 7)untitled (2 of 7)untitled (7 of 7)untitled (1 of 7)Thank you, Goia Boutique, for sending over this headband. I love the color, pattern and my favorite thing: it’s handmade! The quality is superb and I can see this being an accessory that both my little and I can rock. My little is 4 years old & she’s already claimed ownership of the headband. ūüėÖ ūüôÉ *Photos to come soon.

I’m thinking of maybe filming a video showing a little behind the scenes action of what I do when shooting my self portraits/creating content in general. Please let me know if it’s something you’d like to see!

Thank you for stopping by! Have a wonderful weekend!

Mellow Yellow | Spring OOTD 2018

Happy Sunday:

Oh yes, oh yes, it’s Spring time! -The Little Einsteins (#momlife)

gc1-9510

Being a May baby, it’s only natural that I claim the Spring Season as my favorite. The cool breeze, the blooming flowers, all that color – it’s the season of rebirth and growth. For the Summer lovers, it’s the four play for late night outings and priceless memories. Not to mention, of course, it’s festival season.

Yellow is one color I’ve seen a lot of on my Insta and I couldn’t help but take part in the color wave. It’s the color of Sunshine (insert Sun Flower Emoji here) and to me, it’s a reminder that there are always brighter days coming. This yellow button-down top is one of the treasures I found on my last thrift trip [FYI: haul video coming soon]. I’ve never owned a top with vertical stripes & in this color? It was essential for my wardrobe this season.

gc1-9521

gc1-9530

I decided to pair this top with my American Apparel High Wasted jeans to keep this look casual. To maintain that casual tone, I went with my Stussy tote as my purse – this immediately made me feel like I was back home in NYC; taking a trip to the Strand with a gal pal, followed by a sit down in Union Square with Fro Yo and friendly squirrels. I’m not home sick, I promise.¬†

gc1-9512

For a slight bit of interest, I styled this looks with my Platform Vans & horizontal stripped socks. The neutral browns on the socks went well with the top and the black with my sneakers. I also really liked the contrast of the horizontal stripes on the socks against the vertical stripes on the top.

DIY 2-Piece ‘Track’ Suit | Self-Portraits

Happy Monday:

IMG_9254-2

The two-piece suits have been on trend for a bit now – I remember when they first became a thing back in 2015 with feminine silhouette & patterns!

Now in 2018, this trend has definitely taken a more casual, relaxed vibe – with sportswear being the go-to, preferred style. Because of my big move, it’s been really hard for me to budget in funds for new clothes – last time I did any kind of shopping was back in May of last year! As of late, I have been digging through my closet, trying to play-up & revamp my old pieces in fresh, new ways.

Combining this DIY cropped hoodie & DIY Bermuda length pants was one of the ways.

Both pieces are from Stussy – and if you’ve been following me for a while, you know I am a hardcore Stussy rep. It’s definitely one of my favorite sportswear brands – and has been for a few years now. Darien, my boyfriend, actually bought both of these pieces for me, and both are from the Men’s collection.

The Hoodie was super oversized & for that reason, I found that I never wore it. It would completely overwhelm my small frame and I never felt flattering in it. I cropped it about a year and a half ago and ever since then, I find that I reach for it more. With high-wasted anything, it works like a charm. I also like to rock it with a fitted top underneath on days I prefer to layer – it can add interest to any outfit.

IMG_9280-2

The shorts were a basic, long pair of sweats. I would always rock ’em as high-wasted due to my tiny torso, but found that because of how short I am, the leg portion of the pant never flattered my body. I’m Puerto Rican & Mexican – I cannot deny that on most occasions, my hips can’t be tamed & that can cause for some insecurities if I’m not wearing a piece of clothing that hugs my curves in the right places. I decided to chop these up as Bermuda length to keep the ‘boyfriend’ vibe to them – I’m a complete sucker for the androgyny aesthetic. With the right pair of sneakers, these shorts can really give off ‘too-cool for you’ vibes.

While looking in my closet, I realized that both of these pieces are the exact same shade of gray.¬† It was only right to pair them together – looks like I bought them as a set, don’t you agree?

Happy Wednesday –

My countdown to Florida is official: 1 more week. 7 more Days. 168 more hours. Too much?

I haven’t had the time to update the blog, but, incase you missed it, I did upload a full update video on my YouTube channel¬†here.¬†Due to certain circumstances, Darien and I have found that New York City just isn’t the place for us right now. It took me some time to adjust, but I’m ready for this new chapter in my storybook. While I’m still in the Big Apple, though, I’ve been hustlin’, harder than ever. Expect my next few posts to be based in NYC & collaborative.

I recently did a shoot with Amanda-Lee – also knows as @a_leethal¬†on Instagram – who’s actually¬†the first female photographer I’ve ever worked with. Needless to say, the #pussypower was real.

As far as the styling goes: this look was 100% inspired by Darien.

Those low points in life – they’re forever causing stress, heartache, maybe even slight depression. And no matter how hard you try to overcome your obstacle, you find yourself worse than before.

That’s okay.

You’re allowed to feel down. Allowed to feel like there’s no hope. You should always permit yourself the time to feel. Even when the feelings aren’t great. You’re human, and you’re meant to handle rough roads. How else are you suppose to grow? Get stronger? Find YOU?

Give yourself the green-light to get lost for a bit. Once you find the path in that dark, dim world that is your thoughts, the directions to yourself will follow.

Parsons x Teen Vogue Fashion Essential’s Online Course Review

Happy Wednesday:

Though I’ve been pretty MIA the last few months of 2016, one thing that I was consistently posting about was my assignments from the online course I took with Parsons & Teen Vogue.

I recently completed the course – and received my certificate – and couldn’t be more happy. I thought it would be great to share both my experiences & thoughts on the course incase you had ideas on taking the course yourself.

You can check out my review below:

Have you heard of the Fashion Essential’s course with Parsons & Teen Vogue? Are you currently enrolled? Recently completed the course? I would love to read your thought!

Thank you so much for stopping by!

‘Till next week,

My Product | Parson x Teen Vogue

img_0758
Undone Bag.

& we are finally here, the last Parson x Teen Vogue related blog post.

This has been such a bitter sweet experience. I am so happy with all of the knowledge I have gained since starting this course – it has showed me which areas I need to drastically improve on [This post will highlight one of those skills] but it also enlightened me with things I didn’t know at all, and even helped me gain a better understanding of other aspects of the fashion industry.

I totally recommend this course for anyone who wants a basic, overall education on what the fashion industry consists off. It has opened my eyes to a lot.

Today’s post is all about the bag I designed back in the first course. I kind of went all out and purchased real leather, in the hopes of really being able to rock this bag for years to come. After cutting out the pattern, something told me to double check if leather needed a specific needle in order to be sewn together. Turned out, I was right. Leather is a lot thicker compared to other fabrics, so a basic needle wouldn’t be able to survive the stitching. For that reason, I won’t be able to give an exact pricing for the supplies, labor, nor the entire retail cost. I simply placed the pattern together to show what it would essentially look like. With the price of the fabric alone, I wanted to deepen my understanding of how to construct a leather bag to make sure this one turned out as great as possible.

Cost of the Leather: $55

Cost of Floral Fabric: $2/Yard

With the coming weeks, I do plan to treat myself this Christmas season by self hosting this blog and really committing the time this blog – and my passion – deserves. I have so many ideas and themes for future posts – 2017 is going to be a big year for this blog.

I’ll catch you later in another post real soon, and as always, sending all of my love your way!

Thank you so much for stopping by.

Parsons x Teen Vogue: Production Standards Assignment

Happy Sunday:

In my last post, I explained what it would cost to produce an accessory I made both at a whole sale and handmade price. The results showed that the profit would increase almost double once you produced something at whole sale.

In this assignment, Parsons x Teen Vogue wanted us to really understand how the quality decreases once a piece of clothing is made at wholesale by requesting that we go into a retail store and try on the same item in different materials to notice the differences between how they are made.

I decided to go to American Eagle since they are well known for their denim. I decided to try on a 4 pairs of Jeggings and 2 pairs of their Vintage High-Rise denim.

Depending on the material, I immediately noticed that some denim fit me well, while others were a bit too small.

Every pair of pants I tried on was a size 4.
Here are my results.

Jeggings: DSC08030 DSC08019DSC08016 DSC08013

The 2 denim pair fit me perfectly. I have no complains about them at all. The red suede definitely fit me the best, though. They were a bit more stretch and felt snug in all the right places. The tan suede pants were definitely the tightest out of the four. I had trouble buttoning that one up.

Vintage High-Rise:

DSC08021 DSC08023DSC08025 DSC08027

I was completely surprised by the fact that the second pair of high-rise wouldn’t even button. As far as the denim material goes, both were pretty similar.

When it comes to producing one item in multiples, factories are given a specific measurement for the seam allowance that allows them to go a bit over or under when physically creating the pieces. This is why quality decreases once you make in whole sale, because factories are given more room for error. Two pieces will never be made nor fir the same.

This assignment has given me more of an appreciation for quality – there’s a better chance it’ll last you a longer.

Thank you for stopping by, always!

‘Till next time,

New York Fairy.

“…She had the soul of a gypsy, the heart of a hippie, the spirit of a fairy…”

I am a proud Taurus. I know some folks aren’t into their horoscopes but I am a total horoscope junkie – I love to read them on the daily! One of the many known traits of Taurus’s is the fact that we are Earth signs – we love all things nature, and green. I totally have a connection with mother Earth and wanted to dedicate an entire post to all of her glory:

The dress is from H&M: I am in love with how delicate and dainty I feel in it; it’s totally spot on as far as capturing the ‘bohemian’ vibes I’m constantly yearning for.

The earrings are from a local jewelry designer here in Bushwick who I happened to meet at my last Flea Market vending event; these are definitely my current go-to accessory. To check out her Instagram click here.

Both my shoes and clutch were thrifted. I will forever be a promoter of thrifting and recycling clothing. For my top 8 tips on thrifting, be sure to click here.

I’m also thinking about dedicating a post/video to the issues of Fast Fashion and how fashion really does feed off of our consumerist culture. This is something that I have personally been affected by and want to try to make a positive change in. Please let me know if anyone is interested in learning more about fast fashion and its effects on our planet!

As always thank you for stopping by!
