Creative Corner |Benefits of Having a Creative Space

“Art is where Work meets Love.”

gc1-9808

The arts have always been a part of my identity – I’ve quickly learned that if I am not regularly creating, I am not a happy gal. Everyday life starts feeling empty. There’s real magic in physically putting something together: it being an outfit, a painting, jewelry, film/videos, etc. I can’t fully explain this magic (except in my creative pieces, of course).

I know there are other creatives who understand: it’s a part of them that needs to be released. Be brought into the world. A piece of their mind, really. Them.

Having a dedicated place in your home – or [ideally] a separate room altogether – is such a necessity when it comes to channeling that creative energy. In NYC, I had a small studio in my laundry room. Yes, my laundry room. It wasn’t a big space but it was my space. 1.5 years later, I now have an entire Den to use as an office/studio space. I am beyond thankful for the size; both Darien and I can share it while still having enough room for us both to venture off in our own creative worlds. I have so much planned on how it’ll be organize to make use of it’s full potential. Right now, we’re currently in the early stages of it’s life but I’m stoked to see it grow and develop as both Darien and I develop in the coming months.

The five benefits I’ve gain from having my own creative corner:

  1. Being able to leave a project mid-way, & then return later to pick-up exactly where you left off. This is probably my favorite thing, especially as someone who creates jewelry and is constantly designing. If I feel like I’m in a rut, I can stop, take a break & come back once I’m fully caffeinated and ready to take on the artist block.
  2. Separating work from home. I do work a 9-5 four days a week and am a house wife/mama – that leaves me with one weekday where I’m able to sit in my office, and be in complete ‘work’ mode. As someone who enjoys creating and hustles part-time, having a space where I’m able to separate from home duties helps greatly with motivation and focus.
  3. The Escape Room. My office/studio space is my escape room – whenever I’m feeling the need to create & release any kind of stress or tension, it’s my go to location. Even if it’s not related to my Blog/YouTube or jewelry designs, it’s a place that promotes positivity no matter the medium the feelings create.
  4. Motivation for the kid(s). I’m a mother of one and she follows me EVERYWHERE. Putting that in capitalization is still an understatement to her obsession with me. I’m fully aware that it comes with the territory of being a mama, but I want her to follow and be motivated by my good habits. The hard work and dedication my office/studio room gives me is something I want her to see and embrace in her own way. She’s already a little artist – I want her to feel just as comfortable as her father and I in that space.
  5. Organization & Tidiness. Nothing makes me happier than having a space that’s organized – for the most part. Going back to point 1 – leaving work undone to return to later isn’t necessarily keeping your space tidy, but it does help with keeping you slightly organized. I mean that in the sense of you knowing what project you’re currently working on & where things are. If you have paperwork attached with your art (small business?), it’s also a great place to keep important paperwork together and safe.

Have a benefit not on the list? Please feel free to share them down below – I would love to know some of your benefits and incorporate them into my current space. Where do you have your creative corner? Remember, it’s never about size – your creative corner can be anywhere in your home. As long as it’s a place where you’re able to freely create, it is your creative corner.

Dope Dog. |Calming Pup Treats

gc1-9765

Happy Friday:

I love my lil’ familia.

I take pride in ensuring they’re taken care of regularly – hot meals ready by dinner time, clean covers at night, you know, the ‘everyday’ little things.

My pup Brooklyn is no exception. She’s our family dog: 10 months old & a Pit/Mastiff bull mix. We took her in when she was only a month old. One challenge we’ve continually dealt with as she grew older is her separation anxiety – and this is still something we’re working on to this day. I am very happy & pleased that her reactions to us being separate have improved; those first few nights of her staying a part from us are moments I wont ever forget. Her cries; my baby Brooklyn.

At this stage of her life, the only real separation anxiety we deal with mostly is while the hubby and I are away at work. Once we return home, Brooklyn. Goes. Crazy! That’s been the case up until recently when we tried out Dope Dog Calming Crunchies – and the results were immediate. We gave her a treat right when we left & upon returning home, she was excited – as she always is – but in a much calm, cooler & collective tone. We were immediately hooked.

Dope Dog is CA based product specializing in cannabinoid-rich hemp products. All products are tested by a third-party & are deemed safe and healthy for your pup. As someone who is a supporter of cannabis, I was more than excited to try out these products with Brooklyn. On top of being beneficial for separation anxiety, Dope Dog also helps with joint pain, epilepsy, inflammation and issues that may arise to your pup’s aging.  I have not come across a product such as this one and am very thankful to have found it – this is a much needed product in our current dog market.

Though Brooklyn doesn’t have any other issues with the exception of her separation anxiety, it’s nice to know she is being treated for the other issues prior to them becoming a problem for her.

DIY 2-Piece ‘Track’ Suit | Self-Portraits

Happy Monday:

IMG_9254-2

The two-piece suits have been on trend for a bit now – I remember when they first became a thing back in 2015 with feminine silhouette & patterns!

Now in 2018, this trend has definitely taken a more casual, relaxed vibe – with sportswear being the go-to, preferred style. Because of my big move, it’s been really hard for me to budget in funds for new clothes – last time I did any kind of shopping was back in May of last year! As of late, I have been digging through my closet, trying to play-up & revamp my old pieces in fresh, new ways.

Combining this DIY cropped hoodie & DIY Bermuda length pants was one of the ways.

Both pieces are from Stussy – and if you’ve been following me for a while, you know I am a hardcore Stussy rep. It’s definitely one of my favorite sportswear brands – and has been for a few years now. Darien, my boyfriend, actually bought both of these pieces for me, and both are from the Men’s collection.

The Hoodie was super oversized & for that reason, I found that I never wore it. It would completely overwhelm my small frame and I never felt flattering in it. I cropped it about a year and a half ago and ever since then, I find that I reach for it more. With high-wasted anything, it works like a charm. I also like to rock it with a fitted top underneath on days I prefer to layer – it can add interest to any outfit.

The shorts were a basic, long pair of sweats. I would always rock ’em as high-wasted due to my tiny torso, but found that because of how short I am, the leg portion of the pant never flattered my body. I’m Puerto Rican & Mexican – I cannot deny that on most occasions, my hips can’t be tamed & that can cause for some insecurities if I’m not wearing a piece of clothing that hugs my curves in the right places. I decided to chop these up as Bermuda length to keep the ‘boyfriend’ vibe to them – I’m a complete sucker for the androgyny aesthetic. With the right pair of sneakers, these shorts can really give off ‘too-cool for you’ vibes.

While looking in my closet, I realized that both of these pieces are the exact same shade of gray.  It was only right to pair them together – looks like I bought them as a set, don’t you agree?

Your Audience | Parsons x Teen Vogue

Happy Wednesday:

I’m back at it again with a new Parsons x Teen Vogue assignment.

I don’t have many left to do, which is super exciting. I started this class almost a year ago! I am super close to obtaining my certificate in the Fashion Industry Essentials.

Today’s assignment is a bit different compared to the other two I recently posted up. This one focuses on playing around with your analytic information on both hootsuite.com and the built-in functions on social media websites; in my case that was WordPress & Youtube.

From the information I gathered, I learned that most of my readers are female, in between the ages of 18-24. They mostly come from the United States but I found that a few European countries [France, United Kingdom, Italy to name a few] and Brazil were other places where my content is being watched & read.

It’s really interesting learning where in the world your content is being viewed. I am definitely going to take some time to really learn how to properly use the analytical information on these tools. When examined properly, there is definitely potential of being able to use that to your advantage as far as marketing goes.

Thanks you so much for stopping by & reading.

‘Till next time,

Pura D’or Review & Shave Routine. | Video

Happy Wednesday:

A few months back, I was sent a few haircare products from a company called Pura D’or. I have haircare products italicized because if you’ve been following me for a bit, you would know that I actually don’t have hair at all. I’m a proud Baldie.

Giving love to your scalp is a necessity. Now more than ever if you’re a baldie like me. Conveniently enough, Pura D’or contacted me at the perfect moment – they offered to send me products to help with my dry scalp! I haven’t spoken about this much in my blog or YouTube channel, but since shaving bald, I noticed that I do have issues with dry scalp. It flakes every time I clip my hair and it sometimes start itching, especially when my hair is growing back in.

I’ve been using these products non-stop since receiving them – they have even become a part of my weekly routine! I decided while doing this review video, it’d be the perfect opportunity to share my weekly shaving routine.

The products they sent me are:

  • Scalp Therapy Shampoo
  • Healing Conditioner
  • Organic Anti-Aging Face Cream
  • Pure & Organic Arian Oil

Here are my thoughts on the products & my routine:

Thank you so much for stopping by!

Till Friday,
