The Garden of a Latina | Portraits

“I am my own muse. I am the subject I know best. The subject I want to better.”
― Frida Kahlo

The universe has a weird way of working: I am a believer that the timing of things are all due to the ‘most high’ (whatever or whoever you associate that with) and in a way, are pre-planned. The Universe already has the ending result staged for you – it all depends on your actions and whether or not you accept the opportunities & challenges that come your way. Patience holds a huge part in finding the route to your successes – and moving to Florida has really instilled that in me.

Moving from the heart of the Big Apple to suburban FL has shown me a different side to life – the main lesson has been putting more energy and time into my foundation. Being the mama, I have to really nurture and love my family whenever it’s needed and that means sometimes putting side projects to a pause. I’m learning to embrace the pause while still finding the motivation to continue making the time.

Through local connections I’ve made, I was introduced to a fellow Latina, Yanitza Ninett, who also recently moved to Florida from Puerto Rico and the timing couldn’t have been more perfect. It was a real pleasure working with someone who’s vision perfectly aligns with your own. It was real inspiration – and it happened at a time when my inspiration hasn’t been fully there. This was something I needed and I’m beyond excited to work with her again.

I’ve been searching for my motivation and doing this shoot gave me exactly that.

Be sure to check out Yanitza’s IG page – she has real drive when it comes to photography! Her work is amazing – she specializes in portrait photography, but has experience in weddings, family sessions/maternity and is now branching out into commercial.

Please let me know which shot is your favorite!

Parsons x Teen Vogue: Production Cost Assignment

Happy Friday –

This post is dedicated to Class 3, Assignment 1 in the online Fashion Essentials course from Parsons x Teen Vogue. The goal of this assignemt is to understand the differences in production costs between both small and large companies.

We were to create an accessory inspired by a mood board we previously created for another assignment; and find out how much it cost to produce it. Once we were done with that, our next step was to find the same pieces at a cheaper price and calculate what it would cost to produce it as whole sale.

Here is my design and what it was inspired by:

GC Idea

The original price for the supplies used to create this necklace are as follow:

Jump Rings/Claw/Chain/Endings: $1

Hemp Strings: $0.50

Beads: $0.10

Labor: $3.20

Production Cost: $4.80

Retail Value: $8.00

Profit: $3.20

I found the supplies cheaper on a wholesale site. The price for the new supplies are as follow:

Jump Ring/Claw/Chain/Endings: $0.50

Hemp String: $0.01

Beads: $0.05

Labor: $1.60

Production Cost: $2.70

Retail Value: $8.00

Profit: $5.30

Finding supplies cheaper and being able to produce more products faster allows you to make a greater profit. The downside on that is that the quality of clothing definitely decreases when more of the same items are produced.

I’ll explain this further in my next assignment blogpost. Keep an eye out for it in the next few days.

Thank you so much for stopping by and taking a peek at a Parsons x Teen Vogue assignment. Hope you enjoyed!

Till next time,

GC xo

New York Fairy.

“…She had the soul of a gypsy, the heart of a hippie, the spirit of a fairy…”

I am a proud Taurus. I know some folks aren’t into their horoscopes but I am a total horoscope junkie – I love to read them on the daily! One of the many known traits of Taurus’s is the fact that we are Earth signs – we love all things nature, and green. I totally have a connection with mother Earth and wanted to dedicate an entire post to all of her glory:

The dress is from H&M: I am in love with how delicate and dainty I feel in it; it’s totally spot on as far as capturing the ‘bohemian’ vibes I’m constantly yearning for.

The earrings are from a local jewelry designer here in Bushwick who I happened to meet at my last Flea Market vending event; these are definitely my current go-to accessory. To check out her Instagram click here.

Both my shoes and clutch were thrifted. I will forever be a promoter of thrifting and recycling clothing. For my top 8 tips on thrifting, be sure to click here.

I’m also thinking about dedicating a post/video to the issues of Fast Fashion and how fashion really does feed off of our consumerist culture. This is something that I have personally been affected by and want to try to make a positive change in. Please let me know if anyone is interested in learning more about fast fashion and its effects on our planet!

As always thank you for stopping by!

Denim Diary: Vintage Maxi Dress.

Happy Wednesday:

I am a Flea Queen.

I still can’t believe I managed to snag up this Vintage Denim Maxi Dress for only 3 bucks! It was the inspiration behind my month long denim outfits – of course, it was only natural that I save the best ensemble for last.

Embracing the chic Alexa Chung vibes from this dress was a bit scary, I don’t ever really consider myself chic, but when I was walking around flaunting this dress, I felt amazing. I’m always impressed when a piece of clothing ups my mood significantly – it’s a reminder of the true power that fashion carry and the reason why I dedicate so much of my time too styling.

Fashion is love. Fashion is life.

looking upwards

To keep up with the chic, vintage vibes, I decided to add my Old Navy mules – I am a little sadden though because they definitely left a blister on my toe. In their defense, they are a half size too small. Y’all know I’m obsessed with my chocker scarves, so of course I used it as simple pop of color & topped off the look with my pink Fringe cross body.

Outfit Details:

Dress: Flea Market

Shoes: Old Navy

Scarf: Gift | Mom

Bag: Urban Outfitters

What do you think of my outfit? How would you style a Denim Maxi Dress?

Life Update:

This denim filled month was supposed to be over last week of June, but things on my end have gotten a bit wonky again! I am about to start job 2 in a few weeks and weirdly, feel this urge to clean up my home life to better fit my new lifestyle. Things have been on a constant roll of change and I am seriously blessed. I just need a few more weeks to get in the hang of things – no worries though! I WILL be coming back stronger than ever.

I’m also in the works of taking my blog to the next step by self hosting. That should be ready and done by the time I come back. Oh & another reason I need a break? I have a vending event at a local Flea on June 22nd. I REALLY need to put more of my time and energy there & in order to do that, I need to take a break from the Blogging & YouTube.

I definitely don’t mind the breather: I need to get my life in order to properly give my platforms lots of love.

Sending all of my love your way! I hope you had a fantastic 4th of July weekend. I’ll catch you soon.

Peace. Love. Harmony.

Lived In.

Happy Wednesday:

I’m a huge sucker for oversized tees.

Maybe it’s the super laid back vibe they give off, or maybe it’s the fact that they literally feel like you’re wearing your jammies – or it could be both. Nonetheless, I’m obsessed with this super, duper, totally relaxed, casual trend.

I’ve been caught wearing my oversized tee with heels – adding heels gives the overly slouchy top a more feminine feel.

But for today’s post, I wanted to really play around with the roughed up, lived-in look.

Sublime is definitely one of my favorite bands of all time – whenever I listen to them, I am automatically put in a good mood. When I saw this tee at my job during an overnight shift, I just knew it would be the perfect slouchy band tee.

To give this top some edge, I added my HUF socks. There are many reasons why I love my HUF socks, but the main reason? They always add the perfect amount of honest sass to my outfits. For that true Urban, New York look, I threw on my Timberland boots. I swear  I always feel like I can kick ass when rocking ’em.

To cover up on this breezy, summer night, I completed the look with a semi-oversized denim jacket. It’s a true essential in my closet.

There’s only one more outfit left in my June Denim Diary series. I hope you’ve been enjoying my denim inspired looks! This next one is definitely my favorite look!

Top: Old Navy

Jacket: Gap | Thrifted

Socks: HUF

Boots: Timberlands

Birthday Haul | Video

Happy Monday:

I turned 23 on  Friday, May 13th.

My entire weekend was super chill – I spent it with my closest family members with no crazy celebration and it was honestly perfect. I like it when things are simple.

My sister was sweet enough to take my daughter and I out shopping and for lunch Thursday afternoon. I’m super stoked about everything she got me – the clothes perfectly fit with my new maturing style.

Friday was date night for the boo thang and I. We ate some Mexican food, had a few drinks and enjoyed each other’s company. I cherish easy going nights like these.

Kudos to darkotheshooter for the OOTD photo. Expect a full post on my birthday outfit next week.

Saturday, my mother took Kaelynn and I to the flea market. We use to go to the flea market ALL the time when I was younger, so reminiscing on that was super awesome. Oh, and to top it off: my mom gave me a whole 25$ to spend on myself. That may not seem like a lot, but when you’re go-to racks are the dollar racks – that’s what I call a shopping spree.

I was super excited about everything I got that I decided to film a haul video. I am definitely planing a few more trips to the flea market this summer. There are always hidden gems at the market.

Her are the things I got for my birthday:

February ’16 Collage & Wishlist.

Happy Friday:

My goal was to get this post up on Monday, February 29th, but with the way my life is set up at the moment, I can no longer have a set schedule for my blog or YouTube. Life’s just way to hectic.

I recently got hired as a wardrobe assistant for the costume shop at my University, so I am officially out and about 5 days a week. I’m seriously trying to work on my time managing this month. Do you have any tips you don’t mind sharing? Help a girl out & leave them down below!

Back to the point of this post:

Even though I am a few days late, committing to monthly collage’s & wish lists are still in the plan of things.

Day Dreamer:

February’s collage was inspired by my love for bohemian and sporty vibes.  I’ll forever be an urban child, especially being born & raised in Brooklyn, New York, the city life is my life. I channeled my inner Urban Queen for an assignment from my Parson’s x Teen Vogue Fashion Essentials online course, so the love for them vibes is real. Expect an outfit post next week on the assignment. Also in February, I came across an opportunity to work as a wardrobe assistant in the Theater Department’s costume shop at my University, and I officially started this week. I couldn’t be more happier with this job & am excited to learn more about handling clothes. I can definitely see myself using my gained experience  outside of work & into my personal & professional life. In mid-February,  I  attended a fashion show & a presale showcase during NYFW, which were both super lovely. Shoutout to my fellow fashion blogger, Sheismelrose for the invite. My next post will be dedicated to both events – stay tuned! This month has been extremely fashion filled, and I couldn’t be happier.

Welcome to the Good Life:

Casual Gal.

There’s definitely a theme happening in this post. I’ve been seeing pastel dusters everywhere lately & the struggle of wanting one is serious. Anyone else digging the pastels on outerwear? Since shaving bald, I find that I love wearing tighter silhouette’s to really flatter my figure & I’m totally digging it. It’s why I decided to add this choker/off-the-shoulder top. As far as jewelry goes, I’m all for the silver and black diamonds. Always have been, always will be. Last, but certainly not least, for make-up, all I want is lots and lots of lashes. In 2015, I got really into fresh & simple make-up looks, so I basically stopped doing my eyeliner. 2016 has been no different; since this year has started, I’ve only worn eyeliner twice – and to be honest, I don’t plan on rocking it any time soon.

  • Soho Girl: High Waisted Distressed Skinnies. $40
  • Pixie Market: Grey Chocker Off-The-Shoulder Top $65
  • Miss Selfridge: Blush Duster Coat $91
  • Alexander Wang: Mini Rockie Black Bag $644
  • Nike: Roshe One Sneakers $73
  • Billy The Tree: .24ctw Black Diamond Heart Earrings $115

Happy Weekend!

New York Gypsy.

Happy Monday:

I hope you had an amazing weekend!

Did you get a chance to see the blood moon last night? It was definitely a sight to see. My gypsy soul was on maximum – I couldn’t keep my eyes away!

Though I do have a soft spot for fairies, for those of you who don’t know, my name, La Mama Hada, means The Mom Fairy in Spanish, my soul will always be one with the gypsies. I’m a total wanderer and my love for all things supernatural is serious. I have a sixth sense – I’m convinced.

My best friend asked me to tag a long with him to pick up a few things from a local Botanica for a school project he was working on. A botanica is a store that sells folk medicine, religious candles, oils, things of that nature. It’s extremely popular in Latino & Hispanic cultures.

I’m not sure if I subconsciously felt the need to channel my inner gypsy on this trip, or I just really wanted to rock my floppy hat since its official fall, but, either way, I seriously felt like myself in this outfit. It was perfect.

My black, high-waisted skinnies are my current obsession. I can’t wait to play around with them this season – it’s perfectly versatile! I paired my skinnies with my halter crop from the Jhene Aiko x Neff collaboration, because I love the boho-princess feel it evokes. To cover up, I threw on my Forever 21 floral kimono. The key to mixing prints is having a common color. In my case, it’s, of course, black. And to add some sass, I decided to go all out with some heeled, ankle booties.

Will you be channeling your inner gypsy this fall season?

Purple Daze.

Happy Friday:

I’m not super daring when it comes to lipsticks.

To be honest, rocking a colored pout is still a new thing for me – young Glendaly wouldn’t dare have the confidence to rock a bold, colored lip. Once I fell hard into the blogging/vlogging world, I started noticing how rocking a pretty pout brought me feelings of empowerment. It makes me feel like a woman, and I love that feeling.

If you’ve read my previous post, Orange is the New Black, you would know that the week I decided to commit to this blog, I found a free blogging class in the city. It came into my life at the most perfect time, and I thank the Universe everyday for bringing that opportunity into my life. The teacher, Melrose, who is now a good friend of mine, was the inspiration behind that post. She gave me an exercise that influenced me into rocking my “Orange Dream” lippie by ELF. I loved that post so much that I decided to style another outfit around a lip color.

I bought this purple lipstick, Shameless by Revlon, a few months back, and it’s sad to say that I’ve only worn it twice. It’s a beautiful color, but one that makes me a bit nervous since it’s so bold. Nonetheless, I decided to give it a go and styled this outfit.

To keep the lipstick my ‘statement piece,’ I went with an all black ensemble. I mixed up the textures of black, giving the outfit some dimension. I threw on my amethyst necklace from my Etsy shop to compliment my lip color, and added shorties underneath my dress as a safety measure.

I love the mysterious vibe purple lips radiate –  I though it was only right to bring out my floppy hat to embody that.

I hope y’all are having a wonderful Friday.

Cheers to the weekend!

‘Till Monday.
