It’s actual birthday is on Wednesday, but since I already have a post schedule for then, today is just gon’ have to do!
To celebrate, I decided to dedicate this post to some of my favorite shots from this past year. I have experienced so much growth on so many different aspects of my life since starting my blog – I’m super excited to see where this next year will take me.
I am slowly, but surely making progress in my Parsons x Teen Vogue Fashion Essentials online course. Seriously, I’m SO thankful for the fact that we are given a full year to complete it.
I recently finished the last assignment of the first course – Unlocking Visual Style. I had to submit a layout similar to my first assignment: we had to upload images to a Pinterest board and create/capture a separate imagine completely inspired by them. Here’s the post of my first assignment if you’d like to check it out: Urban Queen.
This assignment, however, was dedicated to my story, who I am & how I can visually represent myself. We had to take photos of our room and create an outfit inspired by them. This one was a little bit tricker because it’s a bit of a challenge to create an outfit inspired by interior design. Maybe it’s just me but whenever I look at my room, 8 out of 10 times, it’s a complete mess & I swear that’s exactly how I feel!
Nonetheless, here’s a screenshot of my board:
The outfit I came up with is pretty girly, with a hint of casualty. There’s an unkept vibe oozing from the distressed jacket, which I feel represents me perfectly. I wore my Plasma tee as a dress – Plasma is always hustlin’ hard & is a New Yorker, that’s that real inspo. HUF socks were added because they’re such a fun accessory and I threw on my JC Tardy’s because they are a huge part of my life as far as fashion blogging/vlogging goes. My favorite fashion vlogger wore these a ton when I first started watching YouTube videos, so when I found them on Poshmark, I just needed them in my life. No lie, they hold immense sentimental value to me. I added the gray beanie to go with the casual vibe & used the fake flowers as a prop to represent my love for Earth. I’m definitely a hippie princess.
These Outfit Diaries have definitely become my new favorite ‘fashion series‘ on my channel. Compared to my regular ol’ lookbooks, which are a lot more planned & styled according to it’s theme, these looks are actual outfits I have worn out & about within the past few months. As much as I love dressing up a little bit crazy for my videos, it’s nice to be able to present outfits that are a lot more comfortable.
Regular lookbooks are perfectly sassy, with over-the-top looks while outfit diaries present accuracy & real looks I’d wear on an everyday life basis.
Check out some of my favorite outfits I wore this winter season:
Thank you for watching! Which look did you like the best?
I hope you had an amazing weekend! My weekend’s been pretty chill – I spent Saturday working on a school project at a friends house & spent my Sunday doing some Spring Cleanin’. It was desperately needed; I already feel more at ease with what’s to come as far as life & time managing goes. My foundation is organized. #blessed
I managed to even get a video edited this weekend: I introduce to you my sister, Bernice.
We’ve been talking about filming this video since 2014, and FINALLY, we found time to make this Sister Tag happen. I don’t film tag videos often, so I hope you enjoy this personal video!
Sit back, relax & watch my sister and I act like fools.
Would you guys like to see more personal videos like this one? Leave any recommendations in the comments.
On December 15th, I started the Parsons x Teen Vogue Fashion Essentials Online course. I am seriously blessed to be able to dive into the business world of fashion through this course – I don’t really get that fix fashion gives me when I’m taking the theater classes at my University. This online course consists of 5 different classes, and I am beyond stoked to finally be done with the first one!
It’s recommended that you take 2 weeks to complete each class, but luckily, they give students a full year to complete the entire course. With my busy, busy schedule, that’s definitley something I consider a blessing.
The first class is all about Visual Styling – expect another outfit post next week formatted very similar to this post. The assignment that inspired these series of photographs was based on a mood board I was assigned to create on Pinterest. The mood board was inspired by the aesthetics and fashion/styling images that described me. Since I am a lover of the urban, bohemian vibes, it came as no surprise that my Pinterest board screamed “Urban Queen.”
Creating the Pinterest board was the first assignment – next up, we had to create an image, or a series of images in my case, that reflect the mood board.
Here is a screen shot of my mood board:
Since this is a fashion course, and I obviously have a fashion blog, I wanted to really showcase my inspired outfit with a full blog post – thus this post that you’re currently reading. Here are the images that were inspired by my mood board:
I absolutely love how these photos came out! I want to give a huge thank you to my best friend, and photographer, Oscar, for capturing my vision. There’s nothing but good vibes whenever we work together.
What do you think of my outfit/aesthetic? Does it honestly reflects my mood board?
Would you be interested in me doing a full-on review on the course when I complete it? Please let me know down bellow – I would love to know!
Thank you so much for stopping by. Sending my love!
I’m a bit late on the ‘boyfriend jean’ bandwagon, I wont lie.
BUT, in my defense, they are intimidating – I never saw myself as the type of gal who could pull off the ‘boyfriend’ look, especially with having hips & a bit of a booty. Thank you, mama. To my surprise, I found that they are actually very fun to style. There are endless amounts of ways to rock ’em, really, & I dig it. As far as styling goes, I normally like being super baggy when rocking my BF jeans: wearing an oversized tee while wearing booties or heels to fem up the look is my go-to.
Side Note: I am currently playing around with tighter silhouettes when it comes to rocking my BF Jeans – definitely stay tuned for future outfit posts featuring them! Side Side Note: I recently went thrifting & found a distressed pair, those will also be featured soon.
What are your favorite ways to style your boyfriend jeans? Please feel free to comment down below!
As soon as Bonnie & I met up, Bonnie, who is my college bestie, immediately noticed that I was dolled up and asked me if I brought my camera to document my outfit – she seriously knows me and that makes me so happy. Bonnie was my photographer during my pre-pregnancy days; she was the one who helped me with my photos when I started my first legitimate blog a few years back!
We met up in Williamsburg last week to talk business on a collaboration we’re currently working on. I don’t want to release too many details, but just know that we are taking handmade jewelry to a whole ‘nother level, and I couldn’t be more stoked. *Side Note: I do make handmade jewelry & sell it on my Etsy shop here. I also saw this lunch date as the perfect opportunity to get dolled up & style this Gypsy Mirina Necklace I received.
I am obsessed with this statement necklace – I feel like a bohemian princess whenever I wear it. That’s literally what I aim for every day whenever I am getting dressed. The details on the coins are simply lovely & adds the perfect amount of mystical meets gypsy vibes to the necklace.
I wanted the necklace to be the star of this outfit, so I decided to wear my thrifted, men’s red jumper as a sweater dress. To keep warm, I threw on a pair of plain tights & over that, added a pair of simple, lightly detailed, cute socks. As far as accessories go: I wore my fringe crossbody for that added bohemian vibe, & it’s literally my favorite bag at the moment, my faux-fur hat for that added fierce, and my black booties with the white soals. The color block on the socks and shoes adds the perfect amount of funk.
This week’s video is definitely something I recently started on my channel – I love watching Open Journals, so I’ve been experimenting with this style of video a few different ways.
The first one I did, Open Journal | Love, was more poem based, with footage of different moments I experienced last summer. This open journal, which is my second, is definitely more visual based.
After blizzard Jonas hit NYC mid-January, Darien and I decided to explore Brooklyn & I was completely mesmerized by the calm state the city was in. I brought my camera incase we saw anything wicked – and I am so glad I did!
January literally came and went in the blink of an eye. It always amazes me how fast time flies when you’re older – I was always in such a rush to grow up as a kid that I never realized how important it really is to enjoy the present. It’s why I took January off from both my blog & YouTube channel. I spent the past month giving focus to the foundation of my life, making sure things are running smoothly. I gave myself time to embrace my new look and find my inner beauty, while also giving my daughter and boyfriend my undivided attention. The break also gave me time to find new loves – and I wanted to share them with y’all! Here are the things I have been loving in the month of January:
The main thing I’ve been loving this past month is my new hairless doo. I shaved bald on Dec 28th, due to my alopecia, and I swear, it was the best decision of my life. I feel like me, and it feels amazing. I cannot wait to create new outfits that compliment this hair style for the Spring & Summer – it’s going to be so lit. For now, I’m going to stay with a buzz cut, but when the warmer weather hits, I definitely plan on shaving bald again. Because yes, bald is beautiful.
As far as make-up goes, the only product I have been loving this past month is Colour Pop’s Lippie Stix & Lippie Pencil in the color Grunge. It’s the perfect shade of brown, which is super trendy right now. Being priced at only $5, having amazing staying power and being awesomely pigmented, what more can you ask for in a lippie?
I have been SO obsessed with this faux-fur coat. I picked it up during my last thrift trip, which you can watch here, and was a bit nervous about it because it’s totally not my style. Lately, I’ve been forcing myself to play around with it more – and it’s been really fun incorporating this piece into my wardrobe. My favorite thing about this coat is definitely the fact that I don’t need to layer heavily underneath it – I’m guaranteed warmth.
For keeping my head and neck warm, I have been loving this scarf and faux-fur hat combo. I always get compliments when I wear this hat, and it’s a serious confidence booster – I always feel fierce when I rock it. The scarf doesn’t have a loud print, which makes it my perfect everyday scarf. Surprisingly, it matches with everything.
Hoop earrings are an accessory I would have never worn with hair. Earrings in general were something I never saw myself wearing pre-head shave. I’ve been feeling a lot more confident bald, so rocking these statements earrings has been so much fun as of late! They make any outfit sassier and with my bald head, it immediately screams badass. I’m excited to expand my earring collection these coming months.
I released my Dead Gypsy & Co Holiday Collection on my etsy shop about a month ago and have been rocking this ‘Her’ bracelet like crazy! I love how neutral the colors are, it literally matches with everything.
I love planning. I love planners. And I love planner stickers. Staying organized and keeping track of my daily to-do’s is something I commit a lot of my time to. To make planning my days a lot more fun & inspiring, I printed out these planner stickers on sticker paper. I always look forward to planning my day.
I really enjoy meditating, and I have been trying my hardest to make meditation a daily routine for me. I’m still new to the community, so guided meditation’s does wonders for me! I have been obsessed with The Honest Guys’ youtube channel – I can always find a guided meditation that fits my current feelings and mood. Here is a quick 3 minute guide they recently uploaded; sit back or lay down, close your eyes, pop in your headphones and breath:
Since I was on a break from school last month, I had time to sit back & binge watch some netflix. I started and finished the show Narcos, which is a Netflix original and yes, I definitely do recommend. To me, it’s a combination of Dexter & Breaking Bad, which are two of my all time favorite shows. Check it out for yourself, here’s a little trailer:
Last, but certainly not least, music.
I have been obsessed, and I mean obsessed, with both Tommy Genesis & ABRA. Both are under Father’s umbrella at Awful Records and I have seriously been playing their albums on repeat.
ABRA: Her sound is super trippy, and the imagery she uses in her music videos are simply mesmerizing. I like to think of ABRA as the HipHop/R&B version of Grimes, which literally makes ABRA my #wcwevery week.
Tommy Genesis: Tommy is the newest member of Awful Records, which is why shes dubbed baby awful. She is definitely an alternative rapper – I can see hints of MIA in her sound, which also makes Tommy Genesis my #wcwevery week.
Confession: I’ve made both of ’em #wcw’s on my Instagram. On the same day. Because I am that obsessed.
What were some of your favorites last month?
Thank you so much for stopping by; sending you all of my love!
Am I the only one who is seriously obsessed with Kehlani?
She’s been blowing up like crazy since I found her August of 2014, and watching her journey has given me serious life inspiration. To know that she didn’t have a picture perfect childhood but still managed to grab her dreams of being a performer is simply amazing. As someone who grew up in poverty, had a dysfunctional home life, and still had the drive to make something of themselves – Kehlani is the epitome of working hard for what you love, and truly succeeding.
Kehalni is currently in the works of producing her first, official album, which I couldn’t be more stoked to hear! 2016 is going to be a spectacular year for the current R&B Queen. With a grammy nomination under her belt for her last mixtapeYou Should Be Here, I couldn’t have thought of a better start to the new year.
I’ve been wanting to film a Steal Her Style type video for a while now, and I couldn’t be happier with having Kehlani being my first gal. I definitely plan on doing another video similar to this – is there a particular musician or celebrity you’d like to see me steal her style? Let me know in the comments down below!
